Caribbean Food Delights has issued a voluntary market withdrawal of some of its Jamaican Style Spicy Beef Patties due to concerns regarding third-party supplier packaging quality.

Why are these products being withdrawn from the market?

There is no risk to public health associated with consumption of these products. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have both determined that there is no food safety issue. Instead, the voluntary market withdrawal has been initiated out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public safety after receiving reports that the paper wrapping used—sourced from a third-party vendor—may scorch or even flame when heated in some microwave oven environments.

 

What product(s) are affected by the voluntary withdrawal?

Caribbean Food Delights has issued a voluntary market withdrawal for its JAMAICAN STYLE SPICY BEEF PATTY in the 12/10 PACK variety with the CARTON lot numbers 2859SL3, 2863L3, 2863RL3, 2863SL3, 2864L3, 2864RL3, 414L3, and 417L3; 12/2 PACK variety with  CARTON lot numbers 987L3, 993L3 and 998L3; and 8/2 PACK variety with the CARTON lot numbers 1890L3 and 1898L3. If the master box is no longer available the individual package codes of the affected products are: 320276, 320282, 320283, and 320287.

 

What should consumers do with the affected products?

Consumers who purchased the products are encouraged to dispose of them and contact us for free replenishment. Please send an email with a photo of the lot number to customerservice@cfdnyinc.com, or call us toll-free at 888-398-0003 with any questions.

 

What should retailers do with the affected products?

Retailers should examine their inventories and immediately quarantine any Caribbean Food Delights products listed above that are affected by the voluntary market withdrawal. Products should be destroyed.  Please complete the product destruction form and send back to Caribbean Food Delights to ensure inventory replacement. Please contact your sales representative directly for any assistance.

 

Will retailers receive replacement products?

Yes, Caribbean Food Delights will work directly with retailers impacted by this voluntary market withdrawal to swiftly replenish product to store freezers.

 

When was the product shipped to our location?

The product affected was distributed to stores on October 2, 3, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 21, 28, 29 and 30, 2020.

 

Is the product that’s already been sold safe to consume?

There is no risk to public health associated with consumption of these products. This voluntary market withdrawal is based on the quality control issues related to the microwavable packaging only. The food itself is perfectly safe to consume and can be heated in an oven or on a microwavable safe dish, provided the paper wrapping is removed before preparation. Additionally, consumers may call the toll-free customer service line, 888-398-0003, for questions related to this product withdrawal.

 

Are any other Caribbean Food Delights’ products affected by the voluntary market withdrawal?

No, the market withdrawal only affects the JAMAICAN STYLE SPICY BEEF PATTY in the varieties and lot numbers as specified above. All other Caribbean Food Delights’ food products are safe to prepare and enjoy as usual.

 

Is Caribbean Food Delights working with the appropriate regulatory bodies on the market withdrawal?

Yes, Caribbean Foods Delights is working proactively with both the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on the voluntary market withdrawal. The FDA and USDA both determined this is not a food safety issue and that we are acting as good stewards in the interest of public safety. We have also been in contact with the third-party supplier who sold the microwavable paper to ensure this does not happen again.
